My FAVORITE lens for street photography. I have the Samyang, it's not my favorite because it's pretty lame in low light but the pictures I take where it actually works well, I love. It's also really fun to use for action and scenes. I don't care what a lens is supposed to be for, I only care that it's fun and I like the photos. 😃

I used to shoot exclusively on mechanical shutter to avoid the banding issue... That is until my mechanical shutter broke! I guess I rapid-fired too much. Now I pretty much use electronic shutter unless I need to use my flash.

I used your old settings video back when I got my a6400 a few years ago, and now looking at this updated version as I'm setting up my new (happy birthday to me🎉) a6700 camera. There is absolutely no noticeable difference between the Zeiss Batis and the Sony 85mm 1.8. That's why I choose Sony.

Silent shutter wish I knew sooner too

So low light 🕯️ tips is get more light 🕯️. In pitch dark scenarios you still have to carry light 🚨 to shine on the target 🎯😉. Flashlight 🔦 shining 🌟 towards the nude body of the model in the cave. 😅 Or camcorder with IR mode.

Playback on older Sony models , when you zoom in it seems to go automatically to the point that is in focus .

I use full mechanical always. These newer cameras with no mech shutter scare me.

Hi Jason, I have a very silly question for you. I have the 40mm lens and love it very much, particularly how sharp it is. I have it paired with my A7RV and love all the detail it can capture. But there is a part of me that wonders is the 35 mm GM significantly sharper? I know that is both bright brighter and has fewer optical flaws, but is it also significantly sharper? Sharpness is my number one priority. Appreciate any and all detailed feedback you might be able to give. Regardless, thank you for your incredible content.

Ha Ha~an hour! It took me a couple of days to program my camera. This is a great video. Thank you very much. I learned so much. The end with the s&q times lapse is yet another rabbit hole I plan to go down eventually.

With my Sony a7c I often have the problem that the image is overexposed in normal lighting conditions. This is especially for people and skin. What could be the reason for this?

Buying ZV-E10 was one of the worst decision in my life 😭 Not having a viewfinder is really bad!

After a year you have uploaded this video, my thoughts: you are now in traveling mode, therefore comparisons are less interesting; if you had to travel light to walk 12 hours with a camera for several days and you want to use only one lens, which one is it?

Technically, silence shutter is not the problem. Silent mode forces electronic shutter. If you don't want binding, your shutter speed needs to be in sync with the light. So the problem is the shutter speed.

Question: if you were going on a trip around the world and had the A7CII with you: would you supplement your existing 20-70 F4 with a 14 mm GM or would you simply buy a 16-35 GM II...? (and use the crop mode for +35mm...) Focus: landscape, architecture, night sky... Thank you!

This is a nice test, with some clever ideas... astro, macro, backwards follow-AF, VC system, etc. But my "like" is not for the operator's work. Rather for the assistant, so we can help paying for her rehabilitation. I know treatments are rather expensive in USA, and I want to contribute in raising visibility and success of this video to my modest capabilities so Vivianne can get better and back in business. Then, consider wheelchairs for future tests, they are way safer and you'll have everything you need in case of another crash. The plus side is they are tools for cinema production. And if you doubt it, just have a look at how Jean-Luc Godard filmed "À bout de souffle" (starring the late Jean-Paul Belmondo and Jean Seberg). His budget was somehow non-existent, and he had to rely on his technicians for clever ideas. The "elevator sequence" is famous for this, as it displays one of the most brilliant ideas a broke film creator can come up with. Another fact to take in consideration, hardly mentioned anywhere... Sony owns part of the Tamron company (11% as of today, to my knowledge). And it means a lot... everybody have a think about that. - simple existence of this lens : Sony had no such thing and Tamron took the opportunity to fill the gap, with Sony's "blessing". - updates will probably bring better AF behaviour overall. And some improvements in the stabilization too, hopefully. - as Tamron published it, they have access to Sony's camera global data and this helps a lot for conception and updates. - Sony also get access to Tamron data, and they have included correction profiles in their cameras (Tamron official statement). - this lens was released just in time to pair up with latest Sony offerings, such as A6700 and FX30... superb combos indeed ! - construction quality and weather protection have been improved, to go along with Sony's new quality standards (have a look at A6700 and FX30, so nicely crafted). - some 20-100 mm, or similar, in the near future... who knows ? Tamron became very serious about their zoom lenses, the existence of their 35-150 mm f/2-2.8 for 24×36 mm sensors is a proof of that. So, the world of 16×24 mm sensors spins like never before and I don't see it coming to a stop some day soon.

A bit confused about why the silent shutter setting would lead to banding in the photos. I had banding in a video I was trying to make, under certain light - in that case the fix was the shutter speed had to be set at 1/50.

first 24 mm is not wide enough for me, on full frame. 18 should be the “wide” standard. 50 and 70 is not enough reach. I would have had 2 lens for everyday shoot. 18-55 1.8F GM, and a 70-135 mm F1.8 GM would be my dream team.

This is a camera feature I regret not using in my early years in photography. It’s good for capturing candid and spontaneous expressions of people without the wait for the click.
